Some work comes back on a schedule — weekly maintenance, monthly service, seasonal tune-ups — and rebuilding the same job by hand every time is the step that gets skipped. A recurring job is a job you create once and set to re-occur at an interval you choose, so the next visit is already on the calendar.

Overview

A recurring job repeats on a regular basis at the interval you set. You link a customer, enter the job details, choose how often the job repeats, and set when the recurrence starts and whether it ever ends. FieldPulse then creates each occurrence and adds it to your schedule and your job listings. The Recurring tab under Jobs is where recurring jobs live. From that tab you can view, edit, and archive the recurring jobs you already have, as well as create new ones.

Before you begin

  • Have the customer ready to link. You can link an existing customer or create a new one while building the recurring job.
  • Know how often the job should repeat, when the first occurrence is, and whether the recurrence should ever end.
  • Decide which Status Workflow each occurrence should follow. Workflow Design Overview covers what a workflow needs.
  • If you use ClearPath, decide which Status Action Flow the job should follow. See Setting Up ClearPath Status Action Flows.

Edit a recurring job

When you save an edit to a recurring job, FieldPulse asks which jobs the changes apply to. Recurring tasks follow the same steps and options.
  1. Select Jobs, then the Recurring tab. Open the recurring job and select Edit.
  2. Make your changes and select Save.
  3. In the pop-up, choose which jobs the changes apply to, then select Apply Changes.

How frequency changes work

Changing the frequency only affects future jobs, whichever option you choose. FieldPulse reschedules every future job to the new frequency, so no duplicates remain, and never reschedules past or completed jobs.

Archive a recurring job

Archiving a recurring job stops it from generating new jobs. You choose whether to keep or archive the jobs it already created. Recurring tasks work the same way.
  1. Open the recurring job.
  2. Select Actions, then select Archive recurring job.
  3. In the pop-up, choose what to archive.
  4. Select Archive. To close the pop-up without changes, select Cancel.

FAQs

How far ahead do recurring jobs with no end date appear on the calendar? FieldPulse generates the next 12 months of occurrences for a recurring job with No End Date. Occurrences further out are not created yet, so they do not appear on the schedule or in your job listings. What happens if a month doesn’t contain the occurrence a recurring job is scheduled for, such as a 5th Monday? The job skips that occurrence entirely. There is no fallback to the nearest or last available day, and the next run resumes on the following scheduled occurrence. How do I bill a recurring job automatically? Recurring billing is set up separately from the recurring job itself. See Setting Up Recurring Billing for how to attach it to a recurring job. How do I change just one job in a recurring series? Open that job from your schedule or the Jobs list and edit it there, the same way you would any other job. The change applies to that job only, and the rest of the series stays as it is. Editing the recurring job itself applies your change across the series instead. Why did my edit to a single job disappear? When you save an edit to a recurring job, FieldPulse applies the change to every job in the scope you chose and overwrites individual edits in that scope. Make one-time changes to a single job after you save the recurring job edit. Does changing the frequency reschedule jobs that already happened? No. A frequency change only reschedules future jobs. Past and completed jobs are never rescheduled. Will archiving a recurring job delete my past jobs? Not with the default option. Archive Future Jobs Only keeps past and completed jobs for your records. Archive All Jobs (Past & Future) archives every job the recurring job created.
